DIVISIONS
Division of Gynecologic Oncology
Led by Dr. Cheng-Yang Chou, along with a team of gynecologic oncologists, this division is one of the tertiary centers of gynecologic oncology in Southern Taiwan.
Following the cancer screening policy of DOH, we established the Rapid Pap Clinic since 2002, which provides women immediate service of pap screening without waiting. As of 2003, we introduced the chip tests of HPV infection, complementary to routine pap smear tests.
The goals of service and treatment of gynecologic oncology division is listed below:
- Different operations of gynecologic cancers
- Colposcopy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy for gynecologic cancers
- Gynecologic Ultrasound
- Screening for gynecologic cancers
- Female Stress Incontinence
- Female Urodynamic Tests.
Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)
Under the leadership of Chairperson CH Chang, our section of MFM is on the top around the nation, with the most brand-new equipment and software. We provide the resident-center training program of four years. In general obstetrics, the training includes not only the techniques of delivery (vaginal delivery, vacuum, forceps and C- section), but also the skills of fetal evaluation and assessment in utero, and prenatal management as well. One of the superiorities of our resident training program is Level II ultrasound training, including 2D, 3D, 4D and Color Doppler, Power Doppler ultrasound. Residents are trained to operate all kinds of brand-new ultrasound in their course. Notably, a second-year-resident published a 3D ultrasound paper in the most celebrated Journal, Am J Obstet Gynecol, in 1992, which was the pioneer work of 3D ultrasound worldwide. In MFM, more than 60% of our patients are high-risk pregnancies. Besides the tertiary MFM center in Southern Taiwan, we also train doctors for the MFM subspecialty from hospitals in Central and Southern Taiwan. The services of MFM include the following:
- Level II Fetal Ultrasound
- Fetal 3D Ultrasound
- Pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Gestational diabetes
- Advanced maternal age
- Other High-risk pregnancy and Obstetrical complications
The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology
Led by Wu, Meng-Hsing. Since the establishment of the IVF Center by reproductive endocrinology expert, Dr. Liu, Chi-Hong, the Division has been dedicated to solvefemale infertility in Taiwan. In 1992, the female Endocrinology expert, Prof. Huang Ko-En from the University of Rochester, returned to Tainan and became the Superintendent of the Hospital. He encouraged the trend in education and research into female climacteric that had been long ignored in the medical field in Taiwan.
In 1994, the Female Climacteric Association was founded, benefiting more women suffering from climacteric problems as well as teaching physicians how to correctly and safely use female hormones. The Division focuses on therapy for female reproductive dysfunctions and endocrine imbalances.
Equipment of the Division includes a fully equipped IVF Research Room (from general sperm analysis to advanced frozen embryo and microscope operations for sperm and ovum, etc.), and the Reproductive Endocrinology Research Room. Concerning clinical service, the Division is nationally famous because of the most advanced technologies (e.g. frozen embryos, micro insemination and assisted hatching, etc.).
The services include:
1. Female endocrine diseases
2. Infertility, IVF, frozen embryos and infertility surgery
3. Fallopian tube micro surgery
4. Therapy for the female menopause
5. Hysteroscope
The Division of Genetics
Led by Prof. Kuo, Pao-Lin. In addition to prenatal diagnosis of common genetic diseases, chorionic villus examination, amniotic fluid examination, and appraisal of DNA concerning parent/child relationships, the Division is also the diagnostic center for Prader-Willi syndrome, angel man syndrome, various kinds of contiguous gene syndromes and complex chromosome abnormalities in Taiwan.
The services offered are:
1. Examination of common genetic diseases (thalassemia screening and gene identification diagnosis)
2. Examination of infertility genes (Y chromosome abnormalities of azoospermia
3. Conducting of parental genetic diagnosis (amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and ?umbilical cord blood sampling)
4. Teratology counseling
5. Screening for Down’s Syndrome and other chromosomal disorders
6. Pre-marital health examinations
7. Parent/child blood relationship test
8. Recurrent miscarriages
The Division of General Obstetrics
Has six attendant physicians. In addition to examination, care of female patients, screening of female cancers and deliveries, in 2003, we started to offer breast ultrasound screening and aspiration biopsy and, in 2004, we started to offer screening package for female cancers. All of these services are mainly conducted by female attendant physicians and have won enthusiastic feedback from women in southern Taiwan.
